2023 Wedding Cake Trends

Wedding cakes are a staple at most weddings, and with the new year comes new trends for couples to consider when choosing the perfect cake for their special day. Here are some of the top wedding cake trends for 2023:

Big Cakes

Weddings are not the only thing making a big comeback in 2023 – wedding cakes are too! Couples have had to put off their date or have been patiently waiting for all the pandemic rebooked weddings to be done so they can finally have their special day. 4 and 5 tier cakes are stunning guests when they walk into the reception! Expect to see these massive cakes decorated with glamorous embellishments, like sugar flowers, custom crests and fancy piping details.

Waterfall and Spiral Wedding Cakes

We’ve seen cascades of florals on a cake in years past, but this year the trend is the whole spiral around the cake look. And according to Nancy Park, founder and principal planner at So Happi Together in Southern California - "Fresh blooms on a cake are lovely, but we are seeing more designs focusing on intricate sugar and/or fondant florals and designs," Details like, structural swirls and elaborate handmade accents, such as sugar flowers will be enveloping wedding cakes in a waterfall-like effect. The end result feels whimsical and romantic.

Wedding Dress Inspired

Not cake as an actual dress shape - the 2023 trend is to incorporate elements of the dress on the cake – pearls, lace fondant patterns, ruffles and bow accents are just a few examples.

Separated Cake Tiers

Using a clear acrylic cake separator filled with lights or flowers, or maybe a hoop separator between tiers. Perhaps a hidden stand that makes the top tiers look like they are floating above the bottom tiers – these are all super fun ways to make the cake stand out and become the centre of attention

Colour is IN!

Traditionally, wedding cakes were as white as the bride’s dress; but that trend is becoming a thing of the past. These days, couples are moving towards color—pastel, bold and bright – bring on the colour!
